Welcome

Greetings from The Lazy Su-Z Ranch. It is July 1st and the fishing season on the Rio is in full swing. The river has dropped a little too fast and is warming quickly. Fishing however has been excellent. All hatches are now evident. Not sure how much longer we will be able to float with the flows dropping. It will soon be time to start heading to the smaller streams at higher elevation. So far it has proven to be a great season on our gold medal stretch of the river.

River Flow CFS

The River has dropped back to well below historical average seasonal flows. Only 580 CFS at the Ranch.

Water Temp. F

Water temps are ranging from mid fifties in the morning to mid sixties in the later afternoons. Unfortunately this is getting into the danger area for catching trout. Fish should be landed and released quickly, with as little stress to the fish as possible. A fish released back into water above 65 degrees has only about a 20% survival rate. Many guides will not fish or take clients on the Rio Grande as temps rise.

Hatches

All hatches are evident on the river right now, from small stones to caddis and mayflies. Down here at the Ranch, Green Drakes are coming off around 11 am and producing some great action below the riffles.

Upper Colorado - 4 full day floats produced excellent action in late July and August. The Roaring Fork - Full day float, late july, fishing good. The upper N. Platte - Full day float, late August, Fishing very good in the morning, The Big Horn - Full day float, early September, fishing spectacular. The Yellowstone - Full day float, early September, fishing OK. The Madison - Full day float, early September, fishing slow due to warm temps.
